Let customers follow the technician on a map
The on-my-way text links to a live map of the technician driving over, from their phone.
When a technician opens a job in My day, picks Arriving in and taps On my way, the customer gets a text like “Mike is on the way and should be there in about 20 minutes. Follow along: …”. The link opens a page with your business name, the ETA and a map of the technician on the way to their home.
On the technician's phone
After On my way, the phone asks to share its location. Allow it, and the job shows Sharing your location with the customer until you start the job. If location isn't allowed, it says Location off: the customer sees your ETA only, and Share my location tries again.
Keep the job page open while you drive. Phones stop sharing location when the page is closed. The screen stays on while it shares, where the phone allows it.
Sharing stops by itself when the technician taps Start job, when the job is completed or cancelled, and 3 hours after On my way. The customer's page then says Your technician has arrived or Job finished, without the map.
What the customer sees
The map shows the technician and the home, with “About 12 min away”: a rough guess from the straight-line distance, not a promise. The page updates every 15 seconds and says when the location last came in. Only the latest position is kept, never the route.
In the office
On Dispatch, On the way lists each technician who's en route, how far they are from the job and when their location last updated.
Turn it off
In Settings, Show customers where the technician is is on to start with. Turn it off and the text has no link: customers get the ETA only.
